Mantras and Affirmations

A mantra is a sound, syllable, word, or group of words that is considered capable of spiritual transformation. An affirmation is a declaration that something is true. This kind of meditation can be useful if you would like to use sounds (such as ohm) religious text or positive statements (affirmations). Use a relaxing technique like breath awareness to reach a relaxed state of mind. Then recite your mantra, a scripture, or positive affirmation, over and over until you feel it giving you strength. You can do this at any time for as long as you like with one or many statements.

I find positive Affirmations to be a great way to remind myself to be grateful, kind and make decisions based on love.  Write these on a post-it, sketch it, paint it, collage it, then place it somewhere you'll look often. Great places can be on a bathroom mirror, your cell phone background, front of the fridge, dashboard of your car.  Every time you see the love note, take a moment and say your affirmation (or scripture, etc.).

Below are a few of my favorite affirmations.  But I really encourage you to make your own and try to have fun with it.

I have permission to be myself.

I choose love over fear.

I eat to nourish and bless my body.

There is always enough.

I am a good mother.

I will find a way.

I am ready and willing to release the past.

I am worthy of love.

I forgive myself for past decisions and I'm ready to move forward in love.
